Moldova hopes for Romania's assistance in ensuring the country's energy security, gas storage in gas storages, fuel oil and timber supplies.
This was stated by Moldovan Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita at a meeting in Bucharest with her Romanian counterpart Nicolae Ionel Ciucă. According to the Moldovan government's press service, Natalia Gavrilita praised Romania's significant support for Moldova's status as a candidate country, stressing the importance of further strengthening strategic partnership, including with a view to counteracting the negative consequences of the war in Ukraine. "The support and solidarity shown by the Romanian people and Romanian authorities help us to confront crises and instability generated by regional tensions. At the same time, Romania remains Moldova's most important partner in the process of development and EU accession. We continue to count on the participation of our friends from Bucharest in the management of this process, as well as on the approximation of standards from various fields to the European ones," the Moldovan Prime Minister said. According to her, Moldova needs the support of the Romanian authorities to develop other areas, in particular to ensure the country's energy security. The sides discussed the storage of natural gas in Romanian gas storages, the need to increase the amount of wood, as well as the participation of Romanian companies in tenders organized by Termoelectrica to buy fuel oil. "In addition to systemic reforms aimed at modernization, the number one priority for the Moldovan government is to survive this winter well," the Moldovan Prime Minister added. She also emphasized the importance of the Moldovan-Romanian cooperation in agriculture, referring to the supply of agricultural products and foodstuffs. At the same time, the Prime Minister appreciated Romania's openness towards Moldovan farmers, who suffered from the embargo imposed by Russia, but who have access to the EU market. The sides also discussed the situation at the state border and the need to step up actions to streamline cross-border traffic at the border checkpoints between Moldova and Romania. In this context, the prime ministers also stressed the importance to speed up the construction of the Leova-Bumbata floating bridge. Moldova proposes that the new border crossing point be open also for international road traffic, and not only for international freight traffic. // 13.09.2022 – InfoMarket
