Moldova is taking measures to redirect food exports and imports from Ukraine and Russia in the context of the war in the neighboring country.

Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita said this, noting that the authorities are closely monitoring the situation in the Moldovan economy against the background of the war in Ukraine and offer solutions to minimize the negative economic effects. According to her, the first impact is the problems with the import of some goods from and through Ukraine. The Premier recalled that, in order to facilitate the redirection of imports, a decision was taken to automatically certify products entering Moldova from the EU with European certificates, without the need for certification by the National Agency for Food Safety. Decisions were also taken to facilitate trade through the port of Constanta in Romania and to reorient shipments from the port of Odessa. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development discussed approving container standards with external partners to facilitate cargo flow from the European Union. "This reorientation depends on the ability of companies to import. There are companies that are large international networks and they can reorient quickly. The rest of the companies will take time to refocus," Prime Minister said. According to her, given the suspension of Moldovan exports to Ukraine and Russia, the prospects for the reorientation of supplies in the long term are being studied, and the possibility of importing raw materials from Ukraine - milk for its processing in our country - is being considered. "We are working with business associations, experts, monitoring the situation to help the economy to reorient sooner so that consumers do not suffer," Natalia Gavrilita said. She noted that one week is not enough to give forecasts about the sectors of economy that will suffer most from the war in Ukraine. // 03.03.2022 - InfoMarket.
