The government approved an increase from October 1 of the minimum pension to 2 thousand lei and an indexation of all pensions and social benefits by 3.86%.

About 308 thousand pensioners will be beneficiaries of the increase in the minimum pension. At present, the minimum pension in the country averages about 1188 lei. After the increase, the size of the old-age pension of persons with full work experience (about 183 thousand beneficiaries or 35% of the total number of old-age pensioners), whose pension did not reach 2 thousand lei, will increase by an average of 366 lei. At the same time, for 125 thousand pensioners (24%) with part-time work experience, the minimum pension will be increased by an average of 398 lei. Herewith, citizens receiving pensions of 3.5 thousand lei will receive 135 lei more from October. Also, from October 1, social benefits for 106.2 thousand people will be increased. Thus, the average amount of social benefits will increase from 703 to 1180 lei (71 thousand beneficiaries), the disability benefit will grow from 722 lei - up to 1 thousand lei in case of average disability; from 992 lei to 1.4 thousand lei - in case of obvious disability and from 1097 lei to 1.5 thousand lei - in case of severe disability. In addition, from October 1, 2021, all pensioners will undergo a planned indexation of pensions by 3.86%, in accordance with the inflation rate for the first half of this year. For the indexation of benefits and pensions from the state budget for 2021, about 188.2 million lei will be required, and to increase the size of the minimum old-age pension, 512.7 million lei will be required. Meanwhile, 2.1 billion lei will be required to ensure a new level of the minimum old-age pension and social benefits in 2022.
