
Imports to Moldova in January-August 2023, compared to the same period in 2022, decreased by 3.1%, amounting to $5 billion 709.4 million.
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) reported taht, traditionally, the majority of goods were imported into the country by road transport - 78.7% of the total volume. Sea transport accounted for 7.7% of total imports, railway - 3.9%, air - 1.9%, self-propelled imports - 0.7%, postal items - 0.1%, and the share of fixed transport units (gas pipelines, electrical networks) – 7% of total imports. In particular, the volume of imports of products from the EU countries to Moldova in January-August 2023, compared to the same period in 2022, increased by 2.5% - to $2 billion 784.7 million, from the CIS countries - decreased by 28% - up to $1 billion 075.1 million. Import of goods from other countries increased by 10.1% - up to $1 billion 849.5 million. The share of EU countries in the total volume of Moldovan imports increased from 46.13% to 48.78%, the share of CIS countries decreased from 25.36% to 18.83%, and the share of other countries increased from 28.51% to 32.4%. The TOP countries, which accounted for the largest volumes of Moldovan imports over 8 months in 2023, included: Romania (15.6% of total imports), Ukraine (12.1%), China (11.1%), Turkey (8.7%), Germany (7.1%), Italy (5.5%), Russia (4.1%), Poland (3.6%), India (2.6%), France (2.5%), Hungary (2.1%), Czech Republic ( 1.8%), Bulgaria (1.7%), Greece (1.5%), USA and Spain (1.4% each), Japan (1.1%), Austria and Belarus (1% each), Slovakia, the Netherlands, Great Britain (0.9% each). Analysis of the evolution of imports by country in January-August 2023, compared to the same period in 2022, shows an increase in imports to Moldova from Ukraine (+20.9%), Turkey (+22%), Greece (1.9 times), China (+6.5%), Kazakhstan (3.7 times), Germany (+5.7%), Slovakia (+56.3%), Italy (+5.2%), Japan ( +33.2%), France (+11.8%), Czech Republic (+15%), Israel (1.7 times), Poland (+5.4%), Vietnam (+33.6%), Bulgaria (+9.8%), Sweden (+38.3%), Spain (+11.4%), Ecuador (+54.8%), Egypt (2.6 times), Georgia (4 times ), Azerbaijan (+53.7%), Austria (+9.0%), North Macedonia (2.3 times), Great Britain (+7.2%). At the same time, the volume of imports to Moldova from the following countries decreased: from Russia (-70.6%), Romania (-10%), India (-14.7%), USA (-11.8%), Belarus (-15. 2%), the Netherlands (-9%), Uzbekistan (-40.7%), Pakistan (-29.5%). In the import structure for 8 months in 2023, significant shares were occupied by the following groups of goods: oil, petroleum products and related products (15.8%); electrical machines and equipment and their parts (7.6%); gas and industrial products obtained from gas (6.9%); motor vehicles (6.7%); yarn, fabrics, textiles and related products (3.5%), medicinal and pharmaceutical products (3.4%); industrial machines and general purpose devices; parts and spare parts for these machines (2.8%); vegetables and fruits (2.6%); specialized machines and devices for specific industries (2.6%); apparatus and equipment for telecommunications and for recording and reproducing sound and images (2.5%); clothing and accessories (2.4%); processed metal products (2.2%). // 19.10.2023 - InfoMarket.
