Germany's largest supermarket chain EDEKA will expand the range of fruits imported directly from Moldovan producers.
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) announced this, noting that with the support of the USAID project on enhancing rural competitiveness and resilience in Moldova, representatives of the EDEKA retail chain from Germany are visiting producers of plums, apricots, cherries and table grapes in Moldova this week. During the visit, the representatives of the network get acquainted with the production systems, assortment of varieties, terms of product availability, sorting and packing infrastructure, the degree of implementation of the best agricultural and social practices. For 3 years, the EDEKA network has been importing plums directly from the Moldovan company FANI, which in recent years, with assistance from USAID Moldova projects, has managed to adapt its offer to the importer's requirements, systematize the sorting and packaging process to ensure quality and timely delivery, and learn to respond to changes by adapting packaging to market requirements. USAID is assisting Moldova's horticultural sector to promote the offer on European markets, establish direct links with European networks, implement sustainable fruit production technologies, and adopt good agricultural and social practices. //25.09.2023 - InfoMarket.
