
Moldova is negotiating with Turkey on the liberalization of trade in agricultural products and asks for benefits for a number of commodity items.
This was announced by the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization, noting that discussions on the liberalization of trade in agricultural products between Moldova and Turkey continue, and at the end of last week, the 2nd meeting was held to review tariff concessions under the Free Trade Agreement between Moldova and Turkey. Representatives of both countries continued to discuss the process of liberalization of trade in agricultural products. The meeting was held online under the chairmanship of the State Secretary of the Moldovan Office Vadim Gumene. The parties noted the importance of the implementation of the Free Trade Agreement, emphasizing its contribution to the intensification of economic relations, and expressed openness in terms of requests to review concessions under the agreement. Representatives of our country appealed to the Turkish side with a request to consider providing benefits for the export to the Turkish market of a number of Moldovan agricultural products, including: wines, nuts, fruits, dried fruits, processed vegetables and fruits, juices and other drinks, oil, cereals, meat and meat products, cheeses, ice cream, chocolate, pastries, tobacco. An agreement was reached that the dialogue will be resumed in early March, according to the established calendar of actions. Moldovan-Turkish trade relations are regulated by the Free Trade Agreement, which entered into force in 2016. In 2022, Turkey ranked 4th among the main trading partners of Moldova with a share of 7.1% of the total trade volume.
