Foreign trade this year will surpass the 2019 historical high of $10.2 billion, up $2.3 billion from the last year - IDIS Viitorul.

According to an analytical commentary by economic expert Veaceslav Ionita, this progress is due to both an increase in exports and imports. The export volume is estimated at more than $3 billion, thus, the last year fall was restored and a slight increase was registered. Last year it declined due to a decrease in exports of grain products and exports from Free Economic Zones because of the global crisis. Import volumes, according to Veaceslav Ionita, will also set a record this year - they will exceed $7 billion, which is $1.6 billion more than last year. At the same time, this increase is affected by two factors. The negative factor is the rising cost of energy: as oil and gas have become more expensive, we have to pay more. The good news is that this year the consumption of the population has increased and is the highest in the last 15 years. Also in 2021, citizens took unprecedented loans - they borrowed about 700 million lei per month. All this money went to buy products/services and imports. At the same time, the deficit of the trade balance will exceed $4 billion this year, according to the economist. Veaceslav Ionita reminds that our trade balance has been negative every year since 1999 but, in his opinion, this year Moldova will set an absolute record, surpassing 2008, when the deficit of trade balance was $3.3 billion. // 27.12.2021 – InfoMarket
