Moldova’s Ministry of Agriculture will approve the list of products and substances permitted for use in organic production.
This is provided for by the corresponding amendments to the Law on Ecological Production and Labeling of Ecological Products, passed by the Parliament in the first reading. The bill was approved on the initiative of the chairman of the commission on agriculture and food industry, Alexandr Trubca, and the amendments he proposed are aimed at simplifying the procedure for subsequent amendments to the national regulatory act. Until now, the list of products and substances permitted for use in environmental production was approved by government decree, which had to be changed annually, in accordance with amendments to EU rules. Accordingly, it has now been proposed to annually update the list approved by order of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry in order to carry over the amendments made to EU acts. It is stipulated that the Ministry of Agriculture will approve a list of certain products and substances permitted for use in the production of processed organic food products and in the production of yeast used as food or feed, including all products and substances so authorized in the lists for restricted use, as: food additives and technological auxiliaries; non-organic agricultural ingredients to be used for the production of processed organic food products; technological auxiliaries for the production of yeast and yeast products; the list of non-organic agricultural ingredients for processed organic food products and standards for their use. The bill also proposes a transition period for manufacturers of organic products and regulatory authorities to comply with the requirements established by the Law on Green Production and Labeling of Green Products, adopted in 2023, as well as the provisions of the regulations implementing it. In particular, environmental operators will initiate procedures to comply with the requirements of the mentioned law from January 1, 2025, and for autumn crops - from the fall of 2024. // 14.06.2024 - InfoMarket.
