The Moldovan authorities allocated 37.57 million lei in financial assistance to 285 farmers who suffered losses due to natural disasters in the summer of 2023.

This was announced by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Processing, noting that farmers who suffered damage to the corn crop from the 2023 drought and the July 25, 2023 hurricane to orchards or greenhouses will receive this financial assistance in their accounts today. A total of 372 dossiers submitted by farmers were reviewed. Of these, 285 requests were approved, and the total amount of financial assistance allocated to them amounted to 37.57 million lei. In response to another 71 requests, the Agricultural Intervention and Payment Agency (AIPA) sent notices to eliminate the identified inconsistencies. The estimated amount of financial assistance for these requests will be 12.18 million lei. At the same time, 16 requests were rejected due to non-compliance with established requirements. As InfoMarket previously reported, in total, 372 farmers who suffered losses as a result of natural disasters in the summer of 2023 requested financial assistance from the Moldovan authorities, of which 363 asked for compensation for damage caused by the 2023 drought to the corn harvest, and another 9 for compensation damage caused by the hurricane on July 25, 2023 to orchards or greenhouses in the Edinet region. The most requests for help were submitted by farmers from the following districts: Cahul - 132 requests, Cantemir - 93 requests, Stefan Voda - 43 requests, Vulcanesti - 29 requests, Taraclia - 19 requests, Leova - 19 requests. It was said that financial resources would be provided to applicants in the form of direct payment per hectare. The Ministry of Agriculture recalled earlier that the government allocated 50 million lei from the Intervention Fund to support affected farmers, in particular to cover damage caused by the 2023 drought to the corn harvest and the hurricane on July 25, 2023 to orchards or greenhouses from the Edinet region.
