Retirement and disability pensions will be indexed by 6%, starting April 1, 2024 and about 680,000 beneficiaries will be affected.

The government approved the relevant decree at a meeting on Tuesday. After the indexation, the minimum pension in Moldova will increase from 2620.6 to 2778 lei, while the average size of the old-age pension will rise from 2067 to 3926 lei. The indexation will affect only the part of the pension that does not exceed the amount of the average monthly projected salary in the country for the current year (13,700 lei). According to the data of the Labor and Social Protection Ministry, 9,802 citizens in Moldova receive monthly pensions of more than 13,700 lei. According to the document, also from April 1, the size of the minimum pension for disability will increase by 6%: with average disability - from 1310.31 to 1388.83 lei, with pronounced disability - from 1834.43 to 1944.5 lei, with severe disability - from 1965.47 to 2083.4 lei. Also this year, about 56,000 pensioners born before 1945, whose monthly pension does not reach 3,000 lei, will receive a lump-sum payment of 3,000 lei. More than 73.1 million lei is reserved in the state budget for the April indexation of pensions and social payments in 2024. The government said that since 2021, the average retirement pension has increased from 2067 to 3926 lei, while the minimum pension - from 1143 to 2778 lei. In both cases, the cumulative increase significantly exceeded the cumulative inflation over the same period.
