Moldova is planning to harvest more than 1.2 million tons of wheat in 2023, of which 600-800 thousand tons are to be exported – the Ministry of Agriculture.
Vasile Sarban, State Secretary of the Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry, told Radio Moldova about this, noting that about 450 thousand tons of the total wheat harvest will remain for domestic consumption. Vasile Sarban admitted that grain prices are currently low. "In Romania, wheat will cost about 4 Moldovan lei (MDL) per kilogram. In Moldova, unfortunately, the price has fallen to 3 lei per kilogram. This is again a paradox for us, but we cannot interfere, because there are negotiations between the buyer and the seller," the Agriculture Ministry's State Secretary said. He noted that, at the same time, after the suspension of the Black Sea grain agreement by Russia and the intensification of shelling of Ukrainian port infrastructure, an increase in the volume of transit of Ukrainian grain through our country is expected. Earlier it was reported that, according to the National Bureau of Statistics, the harvest of cereals and leguminous crops in Moldova in 2022 amounted to 1 million 732.4 thousand tons, having decreased 2.7 times (-63.1%) in physical terms. At the same time, the gross harvest of wheat amounted to 851.1 thousand tons (-45.6%). // 09.08.2023 - InfoMarket.
