Moldova will allocate subsidies to stimulate the development of organic agriculture.
This is stipulated by the draft law on ecological production and labeling of ecological products, adopted by the Parliament in the second reading. The document was developed by the Ministry of Agriculture to ensure the sustainable development of organic products and provides for the harmonization of national legislation in this area with the legislation of the European Union. The bill establishes the principles of ecological agri-food production and defines the legal framework for the production of ecological products, the relevant certification, as well as the rules of control in relation to ecological production and labeling of ecological products. The draft law is aimed at creating a legal framework that complies with international standards, as well as ensuring the effective functioning of the domestic market of ecological products, fair competition, and protection of consumer interests. The draft law specifies products and substances allowed for use in ecological production, labeling and certification of ecological products, their import and export, as well as measures that may be applied in case of non-compliance in ecological production. The document also provides for the delegation of a number of powers to the National Food Safety Agency (ANSA), including by vesting it with some of the powers currently exercised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry. Another provision of the bill relates to the provision of subsidies to incentivize the development of organic agriculture. Subsidies will be provided from the National Fund for Agricultural and Rural Development. The amount and procedure for their provision will be determined by the Government. An automated information system on ecological production will function to record and exchange data related to activities in the sphere of agri-food production. //01.08.2023 - InfoMarket.
