Moldovan farmers are in favor of expanding the VAT Refund Program and the range of its beneficiaries, and also demand compensation in the amount of at least 3,000 lei per 1 ha of grain crops of the first group.
They stated this during a new round of discussions held on Monday at the government house between Prime Minister Dorin Recean and representatives of the Farmers' Power Association, which was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vladimir Bolea. The dialogue took place against the backdrop of a regional crisis and the announced protest of the Farmers Power Association. The head of the Cabinet noted that the government allocated an additional 533 million lei to support farmers affected by the economic crisis in the region, and is looking for solutions to replace exports and compensate for the losses of farmers. “With the outbreak of Russia’s war against Ukraine, established logistics chains and economic schemes were disrupted. Now we need to reorganize exports, identify new markets and, of course, identify additional financial resources to support the agricultural sector. The authorities have fulfilled their obligation to speed up the processing of applications for subsidies. We are also exploring other solutions for farmers,” said Dorin Recean. In turn, Vladimir Bolea noted that over the past 2 weeks, all operational and managerial measures have been taken so that the Agency for Interventions and Payments in Agriculture (AIPA) processes more than 1,100 applications for subsidies worth more than 162 million lei. By the end of July, another 3,500 cases should be considered, and more than 550 million lei will be allocated to beneficiaries. Farmers Power representatives reiterated their demands for the possibility of expanding the VAT refund program and expanding the circle of beneficiaries. They also demand compensation for production costs for small and medium-sized farmers in the amount of at least 3,000 lei per hectare for agricultural crops of the first group. // 19.06.2023 - InfoMarket.
