The Moldovan government will review the procedure for granting subsidies to farmers and attract new funding from the EU to support producers and exporters of agricultural products.

This was stated by Prime Minister Dorin Recean, speaking at the general meeting of the "Force of Farmers” Association (Forța Fermierilor), which was attended by members of the government, parliamentarians, agricultural producers and farmers of our country. In his message, the Prime Minister noted that the government will develop the agricultural sector in parallel with economic growth measures and attraction of investments, planning for regional development and increasing labor productivity in all areas. According to the prime minister, accelerating the process of Moldova's accession to the European Union will contribute to the allocation of additional funds intended, among other things, to support producers and exporters of agricultural products. “Agriculture is more than a business, it is part of our social culture. With climate change, agriculture is at greater risk, so there is a need to increase agricultural productivity and promote the availability of investment funds in agriculture. We will solve problems step by step, we will insist that subsidies are allocated to increase productivity, and accelerating the EU integration process will give us the opportunity to access more funds and investments in the agricultural sector,” said Dorin Recean. He also noted that the government will review the procedure for providing subsidies in agriculture, so that small and medium-sized producers have an advantage. Alexandru Slusari, Executive Director of the Power of Farmers association, thanked the Prime Minister for his openness and confirmed the need for the government to intervene quickly to take additional measures to support the agricultural sector. “We are pleased that the first public meeting of the new Prime Minister of Moldova, Dorin Recean, is taking place here, within the framework of the meeting of the "Force of Farmers” Association. During the 9 months of activity, we managed to contribute to the adoption of the Law on VAT refunds and the project on subsidies in agriculture and the rural environment. We need a European agricultural industry, and we count on government support to achieve this goal,” said Alexandru Slusari. Among the main requirements of the association are: increasing the National Fund for Agricultural Development to at least 3 billion lei, prioritizing subsidies for small and medium-sized farmers, unblocking European funding to compensate for the losses of farmers, assistance in the form of diesel fuel. // 17.02.2023 — InfoMarket
