The World Bank will provide financial assistance for the development of the Moldovan livestock sector.
This issue was discussed at a meeting between officials of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry of Moldova and representatives of the World Bank. According to the Ministry's press service, the parties discussed the key segments of the future project to be financed by the World Bank. The project will be launched in early 2023, and until then it will be coordinated with all responsible institutions and line ministries. The cost of the project has not yet been announced. During the discussions, the parties agreed that the entire livestock sector is of strategic importance, but the project will focus in particular on raising cows for milk and meat production, as well as the poultry sector for poultry and egg production. These sectors were chosen as targets because they are essential for the country's food security, and some products can be exported, including to the EU market. WB representatives noted that both the business environment (farmers) and state institutions, which are responsible for supervision and control over the entire livestock value chain, can benefit from the financing projects. Thus, the main goal of the future project is to prepare state authorities and strengthen the business environment in the process of accession to the EU. In addition, the possibility of supporting educational institutions specializing in the agricultural sector in order to provide the industry with highly qualified personnel is also being considered. //20.09.2022 - InfoMarket.
