Hazelnut producers can get a free business consultation from an American specialist who will be in our country from February 11 to 27.
The visit will take place within the framework of the Farmer-to-Farmer program funded by USAID and implemented in our country by CNFA Moldova. According to CNFA Moldova, growing hazelnuts is a relatively new practice in Moldova. Currently, about 10 farmers in our country grow organic hazelnuts on a total area of about 85 hectares. At the same time, there is no significant processing or export of hazelnuts, which is associated with a still relatively small volume of production. For the development of this industry, the American expert Ross Penhallegon was invited, who has more than 50 years of experience in horticulture, and in particular in the cultivation of hazelnuts. He previously worked at the University of Oregon, USA. The main purpose of the visit to our country is to compile the contents of a pocket guide to growing organic hazelnuts, as well as to organize a training on advanced methods for pruning hazelnut orchards. Also, the specialist will give a guest lecture to students of the State Agrarian University of Moldova and a group of farmers on the choice of planting material, planting scheme, orchard care, harvesting, processing and commercialization of products. Ross Penhallegon will also advise Euro Alun, which in turn advises about 40 hazelnut growers across the country. // 16.02.2022 — InfoMarket
