Moldova's agricultural sector lacks an effective mechanism for adapting to climate change, and the necessary knowledge about the risks and vulnerabilities associated with it is insufficient - FAO
This is the main conclusion of a study conducted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) as part of the project "Integrating Adaptation into Local and Central Planning to Reduce Vulnerability to Climate Change in the Agricultural Sector of Moldova" (Ag-SAP). The experts highlighted the fact that the authorities do not prioritize climate change, and there are a number of reasons for this, including political and administrative instability. An assessment of the situation in Moldova also revealed a lack of staff specialized in climate change adaptation. The experts also drew attention to the fact that several state agencies have the same functions in the area of adaptation to climate change, while there is insufficient integration of adaptation measures into sectoral strategies and development policies, and very limited financial resources are allocated to the process of adaptation to climate change in agriculture. The study was conducted on the basis of a survey conducted among specialists in agricultural institutions. // 05.01.2022 - InfoMarket.
