Moldovan producers announced an increase in prices for wine and cognacs.

Moldovan producers announced an increase in prices for wine and cognacs.

According to FineWine, the increase in prices for wine is estimated at about 10-15%, for cognacs - 3-10%. The increase in prices occurs in a "cascade", without reference to any administrative decision or to a specific date. For example, one of the producers of sparkling wines announced a 10% price increase from December 1 last year; the major winemaker warned the distributor about price changes from February 1, 2022, etc. According to the blog, a bottle of wine that last year cost 120 lei is now sold for 135 lei, and the price increase is most noticeable in the premium segment, for example, one of these wines has risen in price from 310 to 375 lei. It is noted that the price adjustment will take some time, but by the Easter holidays, the cost of products will be fully updated. FineWine notes that the increase in prices was driven by higher raw material costs, with two consecutive years of record low harvests in 2020 and 2021, pushing up the price of grapes at processing plants. The production technology has also risen in price (the cost of stainless steel and glass has risen at a record high), gas tariffs have risen, and electricity prices are also expected to rise. Cognacs will rise in price, including due to an increase in excise taxes in 2022. // 04.02.2022 – InfoMarket
