
Over 9 months in 2020, Moldova increased the export of alcoholic beverages by 8.6% - to $149.95 million, relative to the same period in 2019.
According to Moldova’s balance of payments, the overall increase in the supply of Moldovan wines and cognacs abroad in January-September 2020, compared to the same period of the previous year, was due to the overall increase in their total exports to the EU countries and to the non-EU and non-CIS countries. In particular, the supply of Moldovan alcoholic beverages to the EU countries as a whole increased by 33.1% - from $44.57 million in 9 months of 2019 to $59.33 million in 9 months of 2020, and to states outside the European Union and the CIS, by 15.4% - from $40.98 million to $47.28 million. However, supplies to the CIS countries decreased by 17.5% - from $52.54 million to $43.34 million. At the same time, in general, in the III quarter of 2020, compared to the same period of 2019, Moldova increased the export of alcoholic beverages by 5.4% - to $53.39 million, which was due to a 20.8% increase in supplies of Moldovan wine products to the EU countries - from $16.23 million to $19.61 million, and to a 21.2% increase in supplies to non-EU and non-CIS countries - from $15.16 million to $18.38 million, while alcoholic beverages exports to the CIS countries decreased by 20% - from $19.25 million to $15.4 million. Belarus remains the largest consumer of wine and cognac products produced in Moldova. In the third quarter of 2020, our country exported to Belarus alcoholic products worth $8.63 million (-3.7%, compared to the same period in 2019), which amounted to 16.2% of the total. Romania took the second place in terms of the volume of purchases of Moldovan alcoholic beverages in the III quarter of 2020. Moldova’s exports of these products to Romania amounted to $6.27 million (+ 62%), or 11.7% of the total volume. Turkey is on the third place. In July-September 2020, Moldova supplied to Turkey wine products worth $5.6 million (up 2.9 times), or 10.5% of the total volume. Poland is on the fourth place with an indicator of alcoholic beverages purchases of $2.95 million (+ 34.1%), or 5.5% of the total.
