Japan will help Moldova improve cross-border logistics with a focus on rail transport and expand trade routes
As reported by the Customs Service, its director, Alexandru Iacub, met with a group of Japanese experts involved in the implementation of the Data Collection Survey for Promoting Cross-Border Logistics project, supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The recently launched project aims to study cross-border logistics with a focus on rail transport and find solutions for expanding trade routes, as well as to develop a set of recommendations on priority areas for development. During the meeting, the Director of the Customs Service expressed his gratitude for the cooperation with Japanese development partners and emphasized the importance of this initiative in light of the organization's important role in promoting cross-border trade. He noted that the Customs Service is a key institution in promoting international trade, a process that also depends on the capacity and connectivity of logistics infrastructure. “Our data and experience are a valuable resource for this study, which aims to develop a strategic sector of the national economy that will accelerate Moldova's integration into regional and European logistics networks,” said Alexandru Iacub. During the discussions, Japanese experts were informed about customs clearance procedures for imported, exported, and transited goods, the volumes and types of goods, customs control equipment used on the railway, and the tools implemented by the Customs Service to facilitate cross-border trade. Following the meeting, the parties agreed to actively cooperate in the study, confirming the Customs Service's openness to providing relevant data and information that will form the basis for final recommendations on improving railway infrastructure and optimizing goods flows at the Moldovan border. // 30.09.2025 — InfoMarket
