ANTA informs international road carriers about the introduction by the European Union of a new electronic system for checking compliance with EU requirements (EES) at the external borders of the Schengen area (EES) from October 12
According to the National Road Transport Agency (ANTA), based on an official press release from the European Commission, the new system will be implemented gradually over a period of six months in all EU countries and associated Schengen countries. Upon first entry after the system is launched, the person's name, type of travel document, biometric data (fingerprints and facial images), as well as the date/place of entry and exit will be recorded, in full compliance with fundamental rights and data protection measures. The EES will identify persons who have exceeded the legally established period of stay, as well as cases of fraud involving documents and identity cards. The electronic control system is an advanced technological system that will digitally record the entry/exit of drivers and travelers from third countries, including Moldova. This procedure will therefore apply to both citizens with short-stay visas and visa-exempt persons crossing the EU's external border when entering Romania, gradually replacing the current procedure of stamping passports. The launch of the new electronic control system at the external border of the Schengen area marks an important step in creating a more secure and efficient border management system. // 18.09.2025 — InfoMarket.
