On February 24, the US canceled the 25% customs duty on imports from Moldova, but will levy an additional 10% customs duty on Moldovan products

The Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization reported this, informing economic agents about the latest decisions of the US administration regarding tariff policy. As noted by the Ministry, the 25% customs duty previously applied to Moldovan goods exported to the US was abolished by a decision of the US Supreme Court on February 20. At the same time, the US then introduced a temporary additional duty of 10% on all imports of goods in accordance with US trade law, effective February 24. In this regard, the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization informs exporters that, starting February 24, the US will no longer apply a 25% customs duty to imports of products manufactured in Moldova, but will temporarily levy a 10% additional customs duty. The current measure is general and temporary in nature, applies uniformly to all US trading partners, and does not specifically affect Moldova or individual goods of Moldovan origin. According to US law, the maximum duration of this measure is 150 days. “The Moldovan authorities are monitoring developments and maintaining active dialogue with US partners and the business community to ensure that economic operators receive accurate information and the necessary support,” said Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization Eugen Osmochescu. According to him, Moldova confirms its interest in deepening economic relations with the US and maintaining a predictable, balanced, and constructive international trade structure. Trade relations between Moldova and the US remain dynamic. In 2025, bilateral trade amounted to $244.9 million, which is 8.6% more than in the previous year. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, Moldovan exports to the US in 2025 decreased by 44.8% compared to 2024, to $49.7 million, while imports to Moldova from the US increased by 44.3%, to $195.1 million. As a result, Moldova's trade deficit with the US in 2025 amounted to $145.4 million, increasing 3.2 times compared to the previous year. // 25.02.2026 – InfoMarket.
