Sergiu Cotelnic will become the new Director-General of the sate-run Railways of Moldovan (CFM)
Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea announced this to journalists. According to him, the deputy head of CFM, Serghei Tomşa, wrote a resignation letter and resigned from this position for health reasons, remaining in the position of Deputy Director General. Vladimir Bolea said he talked to many people, as CFM is strategic for Moldova and it is necessary to appoint a person who will be able to take over the management of this enterprise and will be able to manage it efficiently. The Minister said that the proposal to appoint Sergiu Cotelnic as the new Director-General of CFM came from the railway workers' trade union, which characterized him as a specialist capable of leading this strategic sector. “He is a born railroader, his parents worked on the railroad, he knows this industry thoroughly. He came from the system, with a new vision, character, opportunity and desire to work for the good of the people,” said Vladimir Bolea. According to him, something needs to change in CFM, people should be paid, and the government will support the new Director so that he can handle everything. “We decided to provide him with diesel fuel from the state reserve for the next 4 months, because we understand that the task of CFM is the transportation of goods, financial resources are very limited, and the government wants the company to work,” said Vladimir Bolea. In turn, Sergiu Cotelnic said that his first priority is to solve the problem with wage arrears of the company's employees. “We have identified the directions we will head for. I am convinced that these measures will allow us to pay off a significant part of wage arrears in the near future,” said Sergiu Cotelnic. He also stated that technical measures will be taken to optimize production processes, the main goal of which is to bring expenses in line with the income received by CFM. The position of CFM Director-General was left vacant after the former head, Serghei Tomsa, resigned 2 weeks ago. Serghei Tomsa has been heading the company for more than a year as Acting Director-General since February 2024, following the resignation of former head Oleg Tofilat, who left the position in late January 2024. //13.03.2025 - InfoMarket.
