
The EU will help Moldova modernize its transport infrastructure and facilitate its connection to the European network
This was announced by EU Director General for Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE) Magda Kopczyńska at a meeting with the leadership of the Moldovan Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development. According to the Ministry, the sides discussed strengthening cooperation in the field of transport and road infrastructure, focusing on current projects and ways in which the European Union can support their implementation. Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Vladimir Bolea reiterated Moldova's commitment to continue the process of connecting the national transport networks with the European ones, stressing that the modernization of the railway and road infrastructure is a central task, important not only for the country's economic development, but also for the entire region. He noted that Moldova continues to step up efforts to modernize its transport infrastructure in order to ensure a better connection with the EU. “In the Ministry, we prioritize the rehabilitation of the railway infrastructure and we are working hard to identify the best options to maximize the use of railroads. Our goal in the future is to switch from road transportation to railroads to facilitate the transit of goods along international transport corridors,” said Vladimir Bolea. For her part, Magda Kopczyńska stressed that the EU will continue helping Moldova to speed up the modernization of the transport infrastructure and facilitate the connection to the European network. “The common priority is to ensure that all ongoing projects are carried out at a sustainable pace and that their benefits are felt by Moldovan citizens2,” DG MOVE Director emphasized.
