In Moldova, 1.37 billion lei out of the planned 2 billion lei for the year were spent on national road repairs in the first 10 months of 2024

This was discussed during the meeting of the Road Fund Council held by Prime Minister Dorin Recean, where a report on the execution of the budget of the "Road Fund Allocation Program for National Roads" for January-October 2024 was presented. According to the report of the State Road Administration, a total of about 2 billion lei was allocated for the maintenance and repair of public national roads this year. 1.37 billion lei were spent in the first 10 months of the year, which amounted to over 68.29%. This figure is expected to increase by the end of the year. The bulk of the amount - 1.08 billion lei - was spent on the maintenance and management of national roads, carried out through 12 specialized enterprises of Drumuri JSC. The measures taken were also aimed at improving road safety: new road signs, metal railings, roundabouts, intersections and pedestrian crossings were installed. "Investments in road infrastructure are a priority, as they ultimately determine the country's economic growth. The government is determined to constantly increase investments, and the funds received in preparation for accession to the EU can help us in this," Dorin Recean said. A special topic of discussion was the preparation of national roads for winter. According to the report of the State Road Administration, all equipment intended for winter work has undergone technical inspection, and the stocks of anti-icing materials and technical salt have been replenished and distributed to 39 warehouses in the territories. 500 units of road machinery and equipment will be involved in winter road maintenance - snow removal and distribution of anti-icing materials. A 24-hour emergency service has been organized, which will provide prompt information on the condition of winter roads. This includes monitoring the use of anti-icing materials and road equipment. In addition, CCTV cameras will be used to monitor the condition of national public roads and traffic flows during the cold season. At the same time, 17 road weather stations installed across the country will monitor weather conditions, road surface temperatures and issue warnings in the event of ice, snowstorms or floods. Another important measure is the installation of snow-retaining panels on national public roads to reduce the risk of snow on some sections of the road. These panels were installed at a distance of about 30-40 meters from the roadside along a total length of 36.13 km. The meeting also discussed the necessary changes to the Road Fund Allocation Program for National Public Roads in 2024, obstacles that have led to the postponement of some planned works. Currently, the State Road Administration manages 5,963.2 km of national roads, including 631 km of expressways, 2,005 km of republican roads and 3,334 km of regional roads. // 10.12.2024 – InfoMarket.
