A Traffic Monitoring Center will open in Chisinau on November 15 within the EU-funded project MOVE IT like Lublin with a total budget of 3.5 million euros
It is planned that, thanks to the opening of this modern center, the traffic in the capital will become safer and more efficient. The creation of this Center is important to solve the main urban traffic problems in Chisinau, which suffers from serious traffic jams, dominated by private transport to the detriment of public and alternative transport. “Currently, public transportation is less attractive due to long waiting times and overcrowded buses and trolleybuses. With this initiative, we intend to implement changes based on accurate data, which will encourage people to use public transport,” said Vladimir Butyrski, Manager of the Traffic Monitoring Center. According to him, the Center will function by integrating and analyzing data from various sources: Waze platform, police surveillance cameras, cameras installed by the center, public transport monitoring system and other open sources. The collected data will be processed by qualified experts using advanced analytical tools. Specialized software will simulate various scenarios for the development and optimization of transport infrastructure, including adjustments to public transport schedules, traffic lights and traffic signaling modes. Scenarios that have proven to be effective will be proposed for implementation. In addition, the new center will improve the efficiency and reliability of public transport by giving it priority at traffic lights and reducing delays, improve road safety by detecting violations, and provide drivers with real-time information on road conditions, repairs and other factors that may affect their trip. The creation and equipping of the Traffic Monitoring Center is part of the MOVE IT like Lublin project, funded by the European Union and implemented through a partnership between the Chisinau Municipality and the Lublin City Hall from 2021. The total budget of the project is 3.5 million euros, of which 3 million 325 thousand euros are provided by the EU in a grant and 175 thousand euros is the contribution of the Chisinau Municipality. // 14.11.2024 - InfoMarket.
