Moldova will sign an agreement with Romania to upgrade and extend the Leuseni-Albita, Cahul-Oancea and Sculeni-Sculeni bridges.
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development announced this while presenting the department's achievements in the road sector in 2022. As the ministry reminded, Moldova and Romania continue to build bridges across the Prut River. Thus, the Giurgiulesti - Galati cross-border bridge was restored/strengthened. The works to reinforce the bridge lasted about 9 months and the investment amounted to about 8 million RON and was fully provided by the Romanian government. The bridge connects the road infrastructure between the two states, thus increasing Moldova's role as a link between the EU and CIS countries. An agreement was signed on the construction of a cross-border bridge between Ungheni and Ungheni. The project will be implemented by Romania within the Connecting Europe Facility; the European Union will provide 16 million 486.6 thousand euros. The tender procedure for the works will soon begin. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development stressed that talks on signing new agreements with Romania to modernize and expand up to 4 lanes the Leuseni-Albita bridge and to reconstruct the bridges Cahul-Oancea and Sculeni-Sculeni are expected to begin soon. A pontoon bridge, including an access road and the necessary infrastructure for the state border crossing point, is being built near Leova - Bumbata settlements in order to streamline the transportation of large-capacity cargoes. At the same time, the agreement between the governments of Moldova and Ukraine on the construction of a trans-boundary road bridge across the Dniester River on the Moldovan-Ukrainian state border in the area of Cosauti - Yampil settlements has been agreed and is being prepared for signing. //27.12.2022 - InfoMarket.
