Moldova will receive an additional loan of 100 million euros from the EIB for road repairs under the Roads of Moldova III project.

In particular, this is provided for by an appropriate financing contract between Moldova and the European Investment Bank for the completion and further implementation of this project, which the parties signed on December 15, 2022, and at a meeting on Wednesday, the government approved the draft of its ratification. An additional loan of 100 million euros allocated by the EIB will be used both to complete the work begun under the project, and to repair and build new sections of national roads: rehabilitation of the R34 road Hincesti – Leova – Cahul – Giurgiulesti, section III, Cantemir – Cahul (km 82 – km 125); M3 Chisinau - Comrat - Giurgiulesti - border with Romania, construction of the missing section of the bypass road in the city of Cimislia (km 0 - km 7). A feasibility study and project documentation have been developed for these road sections, so the procurement procedures for works will be launched immediately after their funding is approved. The implementation of the project will improve the condition and quality of the national road network, including increasing the mobility and efficiency of transport throughout the country. In addition, new jobs will be created and economic development will be supported by investment in road rehabilitation and construction. Finance Minister Dumitru Budianschi also noted that the roads of Moldova are of great importance for ensuring transport and commercial flows from Moldova and Ukraine to Romania, to the Danube through the Giurgiulesti port and to other EU countries. As noted in the message of the European Investment Bank, the increase in the initial amount of the loan for the Roads of Moldova III project in the amount of 150 million euros by 100 million euros is intended for the rehabilitation and modernization of key sections of national roads that belong to the extended trans-European transport network (TEN-T) and solidarity bands running through Moldova, which contribute to better integration with the European Union. With this loan increase, the EIB plans to finance the rehabilitation of an additional 42 km of national roads and the construction of approximately 7 km of national roads in Moldova. The new operation will finance the modernization of the Hincesti-Leova-Cahul-Giurgiulesti national road. Giurgiulesti port occupies a strategic position next to Ukraine and the European Union with Romania. Another segment involves the construction of a bypass road at Cimislia to move transit traffic along the TEN-T road from the city center. // 21.12.2022 — InfoMarket
