Moldova has been granted observer status in the Transport Community Treaty between the EU and 6 Western Balkan countries.
According to Andrei Spinu, Deputy Prime Minister, Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister, Moldova got the status of observer in this transport community along with Ukraine and Georgia within the framework of the ministerial meeting of the Transport Community Treaty, held in Brussels. The meeting was chaired by European Commissioner for Transport Adina Valean. Andrei Spinu noted that by getting the status of observer, Moldova gets one step closer to the EU standards and values. "After obtaining this status, our country will be assisted in the EU integration process by transforming the national transport legislation into the European one. We will take advantage of best practices, ensure compatibility of legislation so that the rail, road, sea and inland waterway transport sector, as well as the development of the transport network comply with European standards. We chose the path that Moldova has long dreamed of, but only in the last 1.5 years has it begun to achieve concrete results. The benefits of this decision are important for our country. As an observer member, Moldova will benefit from technical assistance to transpose EU legislation into its national legislation, which will help us speed up the EU accession process," Deputy Prime Minister said. The Transport Community Treaty is a transport community between the EU and six Western Balkan countries in Southeast Europe: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Northern Macedonia, Kosovo, Montenegro and Serbia. // 16.11.2022 – InfoMarket
