The tender for the construction of a road bridge across the Prut in Ungheni will be announced in Romania no later than the beginning of 2023.
This was announced by the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development of Moldova Andrei Spinu during an offsite government meeting in Ungheni on Wednesday. He recalled that all the documents for the construction of this bridge were approved earlier. The Romanian authorities announced that no later than at the beginning of 2023 they would announce a tender for the construction of the bridge, which should be built within 3-4 years. The Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development of Moldova specified that this border road bridge will connect the road infrastructure of Moldova and Romania through the Tirgu-Mures-Iasi-Ungheni highway and the R1 national highway from Ungheni to Chisinau. The construction of this bridge and access road, including related infrastructure located on the territory of Romania, will be financed by the Romanian government. Andrei Spinu specified that, by agreement with development partners, the funds of the Roads of Moldova IV project with a total cost of 300 million euros will also finance the preparation of a feasibility study for the construction of the Ungheni-Chisinau-Odessa highway. Earlier it was reported that the total cost of the project for the construction of a road bridge across the Prut River in Ungheni is estimated at 40 million euros. The bridge will be two-lane, and its capacity will be determined in a feasibility study. The new road bridge will reduce the travel time to Romania via Ungheni by at least 40 minutes. From Ungheni to Iasi there are about 15 km, and due to the lack of this bridge, you have to travel 50 km. // 19.10.2022- InfoMarket.
