Moldova and Romania will open a new road border crossing point at the Leova - Bumbata state border.
This is stipulated in the intergovernmental agreement between Moldova and Romania, the beginning of negotiations and signing of which was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Moldova. In accordance with the provisions of the agreement, the Leova-Bumbata crossing point will be opened after the necessary infrastructure is built, and the necessary personnel is provided, in accordance with the norms and standards in force. The creation of the checkpoint will speed up and facilitate the crossing of the border by people and vehicles, streamline cross-border traffic and reduce waiting time at other state border checkpoints, which are now more demanded. As noted by the Moldovan government, a floating pontoon bridge will be built between the towns of Leova (RM) and Bumbata (Romania) across the Prut River. Movement through this checkpoint will be allowed for vehicles with a maximum weight of 40 tons. At the same time, if necessary, the parties will be able to agree on the limitation of transportation of certain goods through this checkpoint. As noted by the government, currently, under the crisis in Ukraine, transit through the territory of Moldova of vehicles and goods from this country to the European Union and back has increased significantly. Large queues of trucks have formed at the Moldovan-Romanian border, especially queues of heavy vehicles transporting cargo, including grain from Ukraine. Thus, the creation of the new border crossing point will allow redirecting the flow of vehicles from other border crossing points and reduce the time of crossing the border through them. // 10.08.2022 - InfoMarket.
