A major project has been launched in Moldova to modernize the Bender-Basarabeasca-Giurgiulesti railway section, to be implemented by Temirzhol Zhondeu from Kazakhstan.
It is planned that the repair work under the project will begin this summer and over 3 years it is planned to restore the 233 km section of the Bender-Basarabeasca-Giurgiulesti railway. The realization of the project has become possible with the support of the European Union delegation in Moldova and is financed by EBRD and EIB. Termizhol Zhondeu (Термижол Жондеу), a member of the Komkor Management group of companies, was appointed as the executor of the works according to the results of the tender. By July-August, when the repair work begins, the company will prepare and mobilize production equipment and materials, organize delivery of building materials: crushed stone, cross ties, rails, etc. Implementation of the project will increase the transport capacity, increase the level of safety, reduce the cargo transportation time and create optimal conditions for the effective performance of technological processes on the railroad. These goals will be achieved by eliminating weight and speed restrictions with an increase in speed to 90 km/h for freight trains and 120 km/h for passenger trains. It is worth mentioning that the SE "Railway of Moldova" (CFM) and Termizhol Zhondeu signed a contract in Chisinau on 21 December 2021 for the design and reconstruction of railway infrastructure facilities on Bender-Basarabeasca-Etulia-Giurgiulesti segment, which is key for Moldova and ensures freight transit from Romania, Ukraine and Russia. Termizhol Zhondeu was declared the winner after two stages of the tender. The source of financing for this project is the European Development Bank and the European Investment Bank. The project will be implemented within 3 years since the signing of the contract. As reported earlier, the EBRD will earmark 51 million euros to modernize the Bender-Causeni-Basarabeasca-Etulia-Giurgiulesti railroad segment, while the EIB will contribute 54 million euros. // 19.05.2022- InfoMarket.
