The design of a new road bridge across the Prut in Ungheni will be completed in autumn, and its construction will begin next year
This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development of Moldova Andrei Spinu during a government meeting on Wednesday. He noted that in the context of the situation with the war in Ukraine, he had previously discussed with the European Commissioner for Transport Adina Vălean the prospects for increasing transport links between Ukraine, Moldova and Romania in order to expand routes and opportunities for exports to the EU. Andrei Spinu also stressed the importance of expanding the potential of rail transport. The Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development of Moldova also spoke in favor of expanding the road to the checkpoint in Leuseni by 2 lanes in order to increase traffic. Earlier it was reported that a new road bridge across the Prut between the settlements of Ungheni (Moldova) - Ungheni (Romania) will reduce the travel time to Romania through Ungheni by at least 40 minutes. From Ungheni to Iasi about 15 km, and due to the lack of this bridge, you have to overpass 50 km. It is planned that the border road bridge in Ungheni will connect the road infrastructure between the two states: the highway Tirgu-Mures - Iasi - Ungheni - the state border (on the territory of Romania) and the national highway R1 Chisinau - Ungheni - the border with Romania (on the territory of the Republic of Moldova). The construction of this bridge and access road, including related infrastructure located on the territory of Romania, will be financed by the Romanian government. Earlier it was reported that the total cost of the project for the construction of a road bridge across the Prut River between the settlements of Ungheni (Moldova) - Ungheni (Romania) is estimated at 40 million euros. The term of the work, according to the document, will be 2 years. The construction of the bridge over the Prut in Ungheni will connect the road network across the western part of Moldova, which will ensure greater mobility of citizens and facilitate the development of trade on the internal market of the contracting parties and on the international market. At the same time, it will also enhance the role of Moldova as a link between the states of the European Union and the CIS. // 04.05.2022 — InfoMarket
