The National Bureau of Statistics informed that, in particular, the volume of cargo transportation by enterprises of railway, road, river and air transport in September 2021 amounted to 2 million 170.1 thousand tons, which is 29.4% more than in the same month of the previous year, and the volume of their cargo transportation as a whole in January-September 2021 amounted to 13 million 524.4 thousand tons, which is 14% higher than the indicator for the same period in 2020. At the same time, in September 2021, relative to the same period of the previous year, the freight traffic by rail increased 2.2 times - to 430.5 thousand tons, by road - increased by 19% - to 1 million 727.6 thousand, by air - decreased by 19% - to 0.1 thousand tons, and by river transport - decreased by 51.8% - to 11.9 thousand tons. At the same time, in general, in January-September 2021, there were about 2 million 280.5 thousand tons of cargo, which is 3.2% more than in the same period in 2020. According to official statistics, the most freight is still transported by road (82.1% of the total). Thus, the volume of cargo transportation by road in January-September 2021 amounted to about 11 million 107 thousand tons, which is 17% higher than the indicator for the same period in 2020. At the same time, the largest volume of transportation by road for 9 months of 2021 accounted for the enterprises of Chisinau - 45.3% of the total, followed by transport companies from Moldova’s development regions: Center - 30.7%, North - 15.8%, South - 5.5% and ATU Gagauzia - 2.7%.
