Moldova has entered the top 10 of the global gender equality ranking for the first time, ranking 7th among 147 countries worldwide
In the ranking published by the World Economic Forum, Moldova ranked 6th in Europe. It outperformed countries such as Germany, Ireland, and Sweden. However, Moldova was surpassed by Iceland, Finland, Norway, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Sweden. Moldova's closest neighbors, Romania and Ukraine, ranked 94th and 62nd, respectively. The report states that Moldova has reduced the gender gap by 81.3%, with its index rising by 0.023 points compared to 2024. The greatest improvement was in political participation, where Moldova's score increased by 7.5% to 42.5% in 2025. Compared to 2006, when this index was first published, Moldova has tripled its score in this area by increasing the representation of women in leadership positions and in decision-making. As of January 2025, women held 40% of ministerial positions in Moldova. This significantly exceeds the global average of 22.9% (UN Women & IPU, 2025). “At the same time, following the 2021 elections, women account for 40% of the parliament, making our country a regional leader in gender equality in politics,” the Moldovan Investment Agency said. The Agency also noted that such indicators are a powerful signal to investors and international partners. “Moldova is a modern, open, and equal country where women and men contribute equally to innovation and sustainable development. Gender equality is not only a social priority but also a competitive advantage for Moldova's economy,” the Agency said. // 13.06.2025 – InfoMarket.
