Tourist train on the Chisinau-Tiraspol route launched with the support of the European Union and the UNDP

According to UNDP Moldova, after a 20-year break, the train was provided to tourism professionals for the first special trip to the left bank of the Nistru/Dniester River. The Chisinau-Tiraspol tourist train was organized by the Tourism Platform, created and supported with the financial support of the European Union within the Confidence Building Measures Programme, implemented by UNDP. Within the first special flight of the Chisinau-Tiraspol tourist train, about 150 people, including guides, travel agents and professionals in the field, took part in a very special tourism project - a round trip by train. The purpose of this trip was to demonstrate the tourism potential of the region on both banks of the Dniester River and to show that joining efforts in the tourism sector can promote mutual understanding and cooperation between the inhabitants of both banks. “Such a tourist train not only expands opportunities for tourism development, but also helps to bring people closer together, creating a space for cultural exchange and interaction,” said Ivan Ganenco, head of the Tourism Platform. The tourist route was designed so that the guides could discover the most interesting places on both banks of the Dniester. The first stop was at the Bender fortress, where partial restoration and conservation works are being carried out with financial support from the European Union within the Confidence Building Measures program, implemented by UNDP. From Bender, the tourists went to Tiraspol, where they visited the central park, then took the train again to return to Chisinau. “The tour was organized at a high level, the route was carefully thought out. The tourists were very interested in the cultural and historical heritage of the region and asked many questions. This shows that this travel format helps people to deepen the culture on both banks of the Nistru/Dniester River. We see how important it is to continue developing such projects, which contribute to strengthening ties between the regions,” said tourist guide Irina Ladaniuc. Tourists were also impressed by the first opportunity to travel to the left bank by train. The Chisinau-Tiraspol-Chisinau tourist train was the first excursion of this kind organized by the Tourism Platform with the support of the European Union and the United Nations Development Programme within the EU's Confidence Building Measures program. The program promotes confidence building between the inhabitants of both banks of the Dniester River by involving them in joint development projects. // 30.09.2024 - InfoMarket.
