
The average pension in Moldova increased by 16.4% in 2023 and amounted to 3683.62 lei.
Such data is contained in the Report on the execution of the state social insurance budget for last year, which was approved by Parliament after its consideration. As noted, over the past year the Law on the State Social Insurance Budget was amended three times. The changes were due to the dynamics of beneficiaries and social payments, a revision of the forecast of key macroeconomic indicators, as well as the need to implement new approved measures that impact the state social insurance budget. In 2023, revenues of the state social insurance budget amounted to 38 billion 604.4 million lei, and expenses – 38 billion 524.7 million lei, the surplus amounted to 79.8 million lei. The budget execution level was 99.1%. Financial resources were used for various social benefits. Due to the large number of requests, some social benefits required additional financial allocations. The matter concerns indexing pensions, revising pensions based on age and disability, increasing state benefits, providing compensation for energy resources, maternity benefits, death benefits, and increasing the unified benefit for the birth of a child. The approximate expenses incurred by the state social insurance budget and the state budget for the indexation of pensions amounted to 3 billion 058.5 million lei. Compared to 2022, the actual costs of paying state social insurance pensions were higher by about 3.6 billion lei (+17.9%). The number of recipients of old-age pensions as of January 1, 2024 was 528,666 people. The average pension increased over the last year by 16.4% and amounted to 3683.62 lei. Also, last year there were 98,823 people who received disability pensions, expenses amounted to 2 billion 553.6 million lei. 11,802 people received survivor's pensions, and the amount of payment of this type of pension amounted to 386.6 million lei. To support the population during the cold season and provide compensation for bills, financial resources of 183.4 million lei are needed.
