Moldova’s young specialists in the field of medicine and pharmacy will receive increased bonuses and compensation from the state budget.
This is provided for by the corresponding amendments to the Health Protection Law, passed by the Parliament in the first reading. The new provisions are aimed at attracting and retaining young professionals in the medical system, especially in rural areas and small towns where there is a shortage of medical personnel. Thus, the list of recipients of benefits and compensation provided from the state budget includes young specialists with a higher bachelor’s education (optometrists, licensed general practitioners, x-ray technicians, etc.). According to the legislative initiative, the mandatory period of activity was extended - from 3 to 5 years from the date of appointment, and benefits were provided, including increased benefits, to graduates with a higher bachelor's degree in medicine and postgraduate residency. In addition, medical and pharmaceutical workers working in public medical and sanitary institutions in cities and villages, including from the municipalities of Chisinau and Balti, who live outside the locality where they work, will receive compensation for travel expenses to work. According to statistics, in 2022, there were about 12,600 doctors and 23,687 medical workers with secondary education in the country’s healthcare system. There are major shortages in the following specialties: family medicine, anesthesia and critical care, radiology and medical imaging, internal medicine, emergency medicine, cardiology and pediatrics. The initiative to amend the Health Protection Law belongs to the Ministry of Health. It should be noted that the amount of benefits and compensation, as well as the procedure for their provision, will be determined by the Government. The document will also be considered by the Parliament in the second reading. // 13.06.2024 - InfoMarket.
