From October 1, pensions and social benefits in Moldova are planned to be indexed by 3.86%, and the size of the minimum old-age pension will be increased to 2 thousand lei.

The corresponding draft government decree was developed by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection and presented for public consultation. The explanatory note to the draft notes that, according to the Law on the Pension System in Moldova, pensions are indexed in April (the indexation coefficient is equal to the average annual growth of consumer price indices over the past three years) and in October, based on the inflation rate for the first half of the corresponding year. Thus, from October 1, the indexation will be carried out on the basis of data from the National Bureau of Statistics, according to which the inflation rate registered in the first half of 2021, compared to December 2020, amounted to 3.86%. All categories of social benefits and pensions are subject to indexation. At the same time, from October 1, the size of the minimum old-age pension will increase to 2 thousand lei, and the minimum amount of disability benefit will also increase: up to 1 thousand lei in case of average disability; up to 1.4 thousand lei - in the case of severe disability and up to 1.5 thousand lei - in the case of severe disability. For the indexation of benefits and pensions by 3.86%, about 188.2 million lei will be required from the state budget, and 512.7 million lei will be required to increase the size of the minimum old-age pension.
