Moldova and Bulgaria agreed to expand cooperation in the energy sector to achieve diversification goals and welcomed the signing of a contract between Energocom and Bulgartransgaz

This was discussed at a meeting in Chisinau between Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean and his Bulgarian counterpart Rosen Zhelyazkov. The parties discussed the partnership and friendly relations between Moldova and Bulgaria, support for our country's European path, joint projects and opportunities for expanding bilateral cooperation. Dorin Recean noted that Moldova has become home to thousands of families of Bulgarian origin. "Together, we are building a European future. The future of Moldova is also the future of ethnic Bulgarians from the Taraclia region. And this is a European future where every citizen, every community has a chance to live freely, with dignity and well-being, where diversity is respected," the Moldovan Prime Minister emphasized. In turn, the Bulgarian Prime Minister noted the close cooperation between the two countries and support for Moldova's European path. According to him, the relations between the two countries are based on three fundamental aspects: a common European future, common values and relations with the Bulgarian community, which represent a starting point for new achievements. Both prime ministers emphasized that the bilateral partnership is implemented through specific projects in areas that have a direct impact on people's lives - education, culture, infrastructure, energy and community development. "These are investments that are visible and meaningful. Schools in Taraclia have received modern equipment and buses. Kindergartens have been renovated, and teachers - ethnic Bulgarians - teach children their native language," the head of the Moldovan government emphasized. Dorin Recean noted that in recent years alone, 15 km of water pipes have been built in the Taraclia district, 3 schools have been modernized, 26 km of roads have been repaired, and the district hospital has been equipped with modern equipment, including the therapeutic department, which has been completely renovated. According to him, successful cooperation is evident in the field of education, and the parties will sign an agreement according to which the University of Taraclia will become a branch of the Angel Kanchev University of Ruse, the first Bulgarian higher education institution opened outside Bulgaria. This is an outstanding project offering education in specialties in Bulgarian, Romanian and English, European diplomas and scholarships for students. This is a right step towards quality education, inclusive and linked to Europe. The Moldovan Prime Minister thanked Bulgaria for the donation of 1,000 Bulgarian literature textbooks, noting that this was a concrete gesture of support for the preservation of cultural and linguistic identity. “While the government implements programs for the study of the Romanian language and the protection of local languages, thanks to the close partnership with Bulgaria, we are strengthening the study of the Bulgarian language in the Taraclia region,” the Moldovan Prime Minister said. The officials also discussed cooperation in the energy sector, welcoming the signing of a contract between Energocom and Bulgartransgaz, an important step towards diversifying supply sources and strengthening our energy independence. Dorin Recean noted that the energy sector is a critical area, especially in the context of Russia’s war against Ukraine, and Moldova has realized that energy security is part of national security. In turn, Rosen Zhelyazkov stressed that Bulgaria will consistently support Moldova’s European path, share its experience of joining the EU and strengthen bilateral cooperation to combat common threats.// 28.07.2025 — InfoMarket
