Almost 6,000 Moldovan households used vouchers under the EcoVoucher program during the session from April 14 to May 4

According to the Ministry of Energy and the National Center for Sustainable Energy, in particular, during the session of the Household Appliances Voucher Program (EcoVoucher), which took place from April 14 to May 4, Moldovan households used 5,960 vouchers to replace old household appliances with new, energy-efficient ones. The EcoVoucher program, developed by the Moldovan government with the support of the European Union and currently financed by Norway, is aimed at replacing energy-inefficient appliances with modern ones, which will help reduce electricity consumption, reduce household expenses and improve the comfort of housing for the most vulnerable citizens. The largest beneficiaries of this session were large families - 4,732 people. Most of them are families with 3 or more children who are in a situation of energy vulnerability. At the same time, 1,228 vouchers were used by households consisting of 2-3 elderly people over 63 years of age. "The popularity of the EcoVoucher program is constantly growing, which clearly reflects the growing trust of the population in this initiative. At the recently concluded session, we exceeded the number of 25 thousand beneficiaries who have used vouchers since the launch of the program - families who now have not only modern and energy-efficient equipment, but also increased comfort and a better quality of life," said Ion Muntean, Director of the National Center for Sustainable Energy. Each voucher, worth 6,000 lei, covered up to 70% of the cost of new household appliances. To date, more than 25.5 thousand vouchers have been used within the EcoVoucher program, helping thousands of households across the country reduce energy consumption and modernize home appliances. Kamilla H. Kolshus, Chargé d'Affaires of the Norwegian Embassy in Chisinau, noted that her country is proud to support Moldova's transition to energy efficiency. “With the EcoVoucher programme, we also help families in urgent need of support – parents with several children and the elderly. We are pleased to see how this programme raises awareness of the importance of energy-efficient home appliances while also having a positive impact on the environment by reducing CO₂ emissions and recycling old appliances,” she said. “This session once again confirms that the EcoVoucher mechanism works: it is widely accepted, accessible and has further potential for expansion. We are honoured to support this collective effort, which promotes understanding of the new EU energy label and highlights its immediate benefits in terms of savings and technological innovation,” said Christian Borchard, Implementation Manager of the GIZ E4M component, funded by Norway. The next phase of the EcoVoucher programme will soon start, providing Moldovan households with new opportunities to switch to energy-efficient appliances. //08.05.2025 –InfoMarket.
