Moldova is interested in diversifying gas supplies in the region in the context of current energy problems - the Ministry of Energy

This was stated by Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu during a series of high-level meetings in Athens with officials and representatives of companies of strategic importance to the Greek energy sector. The talks focused on strengthening regional cooperation and securing natural gas supplies. In particular, Dorin Junghietu held talks with Greek Deputy Energy Minister Nikos Tsafos, the management of DESFA, the operator of Greece's natural gas transmission system, the CEO of the Public Power Corporation (PPC), Georgios Stassis, and Kostis Sifnaios, Director of Gastrade, a company specializing in the development and operation of modern gas infrastructure. During talks with DESFA Executive Director Maria Rita Galli, the parties discussed ongoing projects to improve the interconnection of natural gas systems, emphasizing the strategic importance of the Vertical Gas Corridor. It was decided to intensify cooperation to strengthen this regional initiative. The Moldovan Minister of Energy confirmed the important role of the Vertical Gas Corridor for our country's energy security and emphasized the need for a single and transparent tariff along the entire route of the corridor. During a meeting with Gastrade CEO Kostis Sifnaios, he emphasized the common interest in diversifying natural gas supply sources in the region in the context of current energy challenges. During a meeting with Georgios Stassis, CEO of PPC, Greece's largest energy company, Dorin Junghietu spoke about the latest reforms in Moldova's energy sector, encouraging Greek companies to participate in tenders for the status of large qualified producer, and also called on Greek companies to take advantage of investment opportunities in the local market. In addition, his meeting with Greek Deputy Minister of Energy Nikos Tsafos provided an opportunity to review developments in the energy markets of the two countries, with a focus on regional risks and challenges in the natural gas and electricity sectors. On April 29-30, Dorin Junghietu took part in the 9th Balkan Energy Summit organized by Net Zero Circle, which brought together energy leaders and experts from the region to discuss energy transition and energy security issues. // 02.05. 2025 – InfoMarket.
