The 400 kV power plant in Vulcanesti, operated by Moldelectrica, will be expanded by constructing an additional 400 kV cell

As reported by the Consolidated Unit for the Implementation and Monitoring of Energy Projects (UCIPE), in particular, the contract for the design, supply and installation of the plant extension was recently signed, and the contractor (an association of companies Celin and Energobit, Romania) was selected through an international tender procedure. UCIPE director Ruslan Surugiu said that initially the project in Vulcanesti envisaged the construction of a Back-to-Back station to ensure synchronization of Moldova's power system with the European one. “However, with the connection of the Moldovan power system to ENTSO-E, the need for synchronization through the Back-to-Back station disappeared. As a result, the concept for the station in Vulcanesti was changed and it was decided to expand it with a new cell, which will save about 200 million euros that can be used for other needs and projects,” Ruslan Surugiu added. According to the general director of Moldelectrica SE, Sergiu Aparatu, the new units will allow operating the 400 kV Vulcanesti-Chisinau overhead power transmission line under construction, providing the possibility of supplying electricity to the Chisinau energy hub in two alternatives. The value of the contract is about 3.8 million euros, with a performance period of up to 16 months. The works are part of the Moldova Power System Development Project, the total cost of which is 61 million euros and financed by the International Development Association, a member of the World Bank Group. // 31.01.2025 - InfoMarket
