Moldovan government has adopted new measures to help increase the share of renewable energy production in the country
In particular, large renewable energy producers will have priority in the process of issuing permits for connection to the electricity grid. The corresponding decision was adopted by the Cabinet of Ministers. The document provides for the imposition on system operators of a 6-year obligation to grant grid access to renewable energy producers benefiting from the “fixed price” support scheme. This involves placing the application received from large producers eligible for connection notification at the top of the waiting list, and in the absence of the requested capacity, alternative solutions will be offered in relation to areas where there is available capacity on the grid. The project is needed in a context where only 5% of the 96 currently valid permits with a total capacity of about 1,600 MW are actually connected to the grid. This situation limits the opportunities for investors with real intentions to develop renewable energy power plants. In the long term, the project will contribute to increasing the share of renewable energy production in the structure of the electricity sector of our country and to fulfill Moldova's obligations to ensure at least 30% of electricity consumption from renewable sources by 2030. Also for this purpose, the first tenders for the status of a large producer are currently being held, for which the capacity of 105 MW for wind farms and 60 MW for photovoltaic plants has been allocated. // 29.01.2025 - InfoMarket.
