Ukraine can ensure transit of Azerbaijani gas to Moldova

This was made clear by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at a press conference in Kyiv with his Moldovan counterpart Maia Sandu. He noted that Ukraine would not agree to resume transit of Russian gas, but it did not refuse to transit gas from Azerbaijan to Europe. “There is gas, there are supply routes from Azerbaijan. The main thing is that it has to be a political will to work for its people, not with Moscow for some shadow pocket, as some characters in Eastern Europe do,” Ukrainian President said. He noted that he discussed the issue of transit of Azerbaijani gas through Ukraine with Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev. “In Azerbaijan today gas production is large - somewhere 40 billion cubic meters. It uses somewhere around 14-15 billion. It has big exports. The export capacity is 25 billion cubic meters. We can also use our infrastructure if countries in Europe need gas, but not Russian gas,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said. According to him, Ukraine has never denied the possibility of transit of Azerbaijani gas through its territory. “But I said that we will not transport Russian gas further. We will not let the Russians earn money. Will we let the Azerbaijanis make money? With pleasure. Will we help the Slovaks? With pleasure. This is what we can do quickly. We can sign a contract, we can arrange everything quickly, when we hear a signal from people in Tiraspol, and from people in Slovakia, and from people in other European countries,” Ukrainian President added. Let us remind you, on January 1, 2025 Ukraine stopped the transit of Russian gas through its territory to Europe, including Moldova, to its Transnistrian region. The relevant decision was adopted in view of the fact that the contract between Ukraine and the Russian Federation had expired, and Kyiv decided not to extend it because of the war, in order to deprive the Russian side of part of the resources from energy exports. // 27.01.2025 - InfoMarket.
