Construction of the 400 kV Vulcanesti-Chisinau transmission line is on schedule and it will be put into operation by the end of 2025 - Moldovan government

The Cabinet of Ministers said this, noting that the progress in the construction of this transmission line was reviewed at a meeting held by Prime Minister Dorin Recean, with the participation of the project's executor, construction companies and other institutions involved. Prime Minister stressed the strategic importance of this infrastructure project for the country's energy security, in the context of the current regional realities, and asked all the involved parties to mobilize and to avoid delays in the work schedule. The deadline for completion and commissioning of the line is December this year. “With the commissioning of the Vulcanesti - Chisinau power transmission line, we will be able to transport electricity without passing through the energy hub of the MGRES, and the Russian Federation will lose the last instrument of energy blackmail of our country. That is why it is important that the works be urgent and be carried out on time,” Dorin Recean emphasized. At the same time, Prime Minister demanded that the companies responsible for the construction: the consortium of KEC International Limited, Siemens Energy - Electromontaj - Energotech, submit an updated work program in line with the requirements and report weekly on the progress of the works to the Energy Ministry and the Consolidated Unit for the Implementation and Monitoring of Energy Projects (UCIPE). At the meeting, it was said that the construction of the Chisinau power plant will be completed by August. In order to optimize the implementation monitoring process, representatives of UCIPE and the Ministry of Energy will visit the construction/modernization/extension sites within the framework of the Power System Development Project (PSDP) on weekly or every 2 weeks to check the progress of works. To date, the construction works of the Vulcanesti-Chisinau transmission line are 49% complete. During the works, about 190 foundations and about 30 supports have been installed, and the length of the construction site is about 65 km. The construction works were actually started in April 2024, after the development and approval of the technical project and fulfillment of the preconditions for the works. Currently, they are carried out in ATU Gagauzia, Leova, Cahul and Taraclia districts. The materials and components necessary for the construction of the transmission line have been produced and delivered in the volume of 90%. At the same time, in order to complete the works on time, KEC International Limited assured that it will increase the number of workers at the site from March, when the weather gets warmer. According to UCIPE, work is progressing at a continuous pace with another 50 poles scheduled to be installed over the winter months. However, the pace of work depends on the weather, and the work and field crews will be scheduled according to the work plan, according to which the transmission line will be operational by the end of 2025. // 17.01.2025 - InfoMarket.
