Moldovan Prime Minister urged to speed up the implementation of strategic projects in the energy infrastructure sector
Dorin Recean said this at a meeting of the Supervisory Committee of the Consolidated Unit for the Implementation and Monitoring of Energy Projects (UCIPE). The participants in the meeting discussed the implementation of energy infrastructure projects of priority for Moldova. Prime Minister stressed that, under the current conditions, it is necessary to speed up the implementation of energy infrastructure projects, as they are crucial for the country's energy security. “We need to reduce the bureaucratic procedures as much as possible, so that the pace of works would be higher,” Dorin Recean said. It was stressed that the main projects currently being implemented are: construction of the 400 kV Vulcanesti-Chisinau high-voltage transmission line, modernization of the Chisinau power plant, expansion of the Vulcanesti power plant, construction of a new Moldelectrica dispatch center, improving the efficiency of the central heating system, improving the energy efficiency of the country's ten hospitals, among others. According to the report presented by UCIPE, the current challenges are related to the observance of the deadlines, limited local capacities for project development, the process of land expropriation, logistical difficulties due to the war, as well as the quality of the proposals submitted by the companies. Prime Minister instructed to identify all existing obstacles so that the necessary changes can be made to speed up the implementation of projects. The possibility of attracting the necessary consulting services and increasing the human resources involved in the implementation of the projects will also be analyzed. This year, the project “Sustainable Transition through Energy Efficiency in Moldova” (STEEM project) will be launched, which envisages the implementation of energy efficiency measures in 46 educational institutions, the installation of individual heating units and other measures. Another project, “Initiative for the Development of Sustainable Public Infrastructure through Energy Efficiency Renovations” (INSPIREE), is aimed at implementing energy efficiency measures in 16 buildings of higher education institutions. Prime Minister also spoke about the prospect of creating an energy park, which will provide energy producers with the necessary capacities and working conditions. UCIPE was created in 2000 in order to increase the efficiency of investment, financial and technical assistance projects in Moldova's energy sector. So far, the institution has implemented projects of strategic importance, including: interconnection of the Romanian and Moldovan gas transportation systems; development of a feasibility study for the synchronous connection of the Ukrainian and Moldovan energy systems to the continental European ENTSO-E system, as well as projects related to energy efficiency and renewable energy. // 20.01.2025 - InfoMarket
