Moldova will allow construction of wind and biogas plants, as well as battery energy storage systems on agricultural lands
This is envisaged by an amendment to the Land Code, which the Parliament adopted in the first reading. The authors of the legislative initiative are the Chairman of the Parliamentary Commission on Economy, Budget and Finance Radu Marian and his colleague Ion Babici. The bill was coordinated with the Ministry of Energy and is aimed at strengthening the country's energy security. Radu Marian noted that the adoption of the amendment will lead to an even faster growth in the production of "green" energy in our country and will immediately open several important projects in this direction. According to him, the biggest obstacle mentioned by investors wishing to install wind turbines is the labor-intensive and resource-intensive process of changing the type of use of agricultural land. "Once this serious barrier is removed, we will be able to see even higher rates of production of renewable energy based on wind," Radu Marian noted. According to him, a similar law adopted in 2021, which allows the installation of solar panels on agricultural land, has led to a rapid 8-fold increase in renewable energy production in the country, mainly due to solar panels. The share of renewable energy in total energy demand has grown from 3% in 2020 to about 20% in 2024. “We want to repeat this success in the field of wind energy. At the same time, the advantage of wind energy is that it has a higher generation profile compared to solar panels, since electricity is produced at night and in winter. Together with the provisions allowing the construction of biogas plants and energy storage systems on agricultural land, this bill can significantly contribute to our energy security, reduce future electricity bills and make the environment cleaner,” Radu Marian emphasized.// 30.01.2025 — InfoMarket
