The government will find better solutions to overcome the energy crisis and will support citizens on both banks of the Nistru/Dniester River - Dorin Recean
Prime Minister said this at a plenary session of Parliament, in the context of the consideration of the vote of no confidence, introduced by the MPs from the “Bloc of Communists and Socialists” in connection with the current situation in the energy sector. “I cannot tolerate this cynicism and hypocrisy, but harder is the betrayal of the Motherland and national interests. No, Socialist MPs, communists and leftists, our country, Moldova, is not to blame for the continuous attacks on it by a foreign state. Moldova will continue to stand on its feet and develop, even if many of you are paid to work against it,” Dorin Recean said. Prime Minister said that for 30 years, Moldova was totally dependent on one gas source and one power line, while today, Russia does everything possible to use energy and coldness against people. Prime Minister referred to the war unleashed by Russia in Ukraine and the bombing of the energy infrastructure, stressing that for several years now, the government has been doing everything possible to ensure that gas is no longer used as a political weapon against Chisinau. “Every winter, Moldovans risked being without heat and light in their homes just because the Kremlin wanted it that way. Helping Russia to weaken Moldova is a real betrayal. Patriotism means helping Moldova become stronger before any foreign country that wants to destroy it. Our country is not to blame for the ruthless attacks on it by a foreign state. Moldova will continue to stand on its feet and develop,” Dorin Recean said. According to him, the residents on the right bank of the Dniester will not sit in cold and darkness, as the authorities have secured 97% of the gas volumes for the cold period. “At the same time, if the citizens of Transnistria remain without heat from Russia, the government will help the people, and if the prices rise at the international level, it will compensate the expenses and support those in need,” the head of the Cabinet said. Referring to the government's action plan for the cold season, Prime Minister said that it includes 44 measures meant to ensure Moldova's energy security, noting that the country is ready for many scenarios of the cold season. The document also includes an important component, which refers to the risk of a humanitarian catastrophe due to the cessation of gas supplies to the Transnistrian region and, consequently, to the problems of ensuring the functioning of the energy system throughout Moldova. Dorin Recean also referred to the actions undertaken over the last 2 years, during which Moldova significantly improved its energy security. Among them are: the diversification of natural gas and electricity supply routes, the provision of the Right Bank with natural gas in 2023 at a lower price than that supplied by Gazprom, Moldova's accession to the Vertical Gas Corridor, the creation of natural gas reserves for the 2024-2025 heating season. At the same time, the Material Reserves Agency has ensured a 100-per-cent reserve of coal, while the existing stocks of fuel oil in the state reserves are replenished within the existing storage capacities. As for gasoline and diesel fuel reserves, they were created by private economic agents and are higher than in the previous year. “Yes, we are facing serious challenges, but they were not caused by us, the government or our people. Only by coming together will we overcome this crisis. And not only will we overcome it, but we will come out of it stronger and freer. Let us stand in solidarity with the most vulnerable, let us stand in solidarity with each other. Let us put aside the accusations that do not lead to solutions and let us work responsibly to protect citizens and to ensure moving forward,” Dorin Recean said. Prime Minister also touched upon other crises that have affected our country recently, noting that the government came to the people's aid every time with social payments and increased the incomes of a number of professional categories. Thus, the social expenditures, which used to account for 9 per cent of the gross domestic product, now account for 13 per cent. In this context, Prime Minister said that poverty must be defeated by creating jobs and increasing incomes. “Even despite the war on the border, we have managed to attract investors, increase employment and legalize a large part of illegal work. But most importantly, we are full speed ahead on the path of European integration, which is the main guarantor of the well-being not only of the immediate future, but also of all future generations,” said Dorin Recean. //13.12.2024 - InfoMarket.
