In Moldova may be imposed a state of emergency in the energy sector from December 16
During a briefing on Thursday, Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean said that this winter will be associated with many risks, so he decided to ask the parliament to impose a state of emergency in the energy sector, starting from December 16, until the situation with gas supply to our citizens, including residents of the Transnistrian region, is resolved. Dorin Recean emphasized that it is very important to manage the possible consequences of the crisis and provide consumers with electricity, especially residents of the right bank of the Dniester. In this regard, the day before, he met with the management of enterprises and institutions in the energy sector, with whom possible risks and the evolution of the situation in the energy sector were discussed. The Prime Minister demanded that the competent institutions be ready to quickly and effectively respond to all possible developments in the situation, while actions in the event of a state of emergency and the implementation of the corresponding scenario are agreed with each enterprise. Answering journalists' questions about specific actions in the context of the uncertainty of the scenario with the transit of Russian gas through the territory of Ukraine, he expressed confidence that this situation will be maintained until the last moment. "If such a scenario materializes, Moldova will have to connect to the eastern networks through Romania in order to import more electricity, and we must also make sure that the left bank can receive gas and electricity and pay for them. The government's task is to ensure this transition," Dorin Recean said. He specified that Moldova is obliged to ensure energy security on the left bank and prevent a humanitarian catastrophe. "We have scenarios, but the left bank will have to pay for energy resources, we will introduce market conditions," the prime minister emphasized. He also noted that Termoelectrica is ready to provide Chisinau with thermal energy, but the enterprise will increase its capacity and, if necessary, increase the production of both thermal energy and electricity, including in case there is no electricity supply from the Moldovan State District Power Plant. When asked by journalists whether the Prime Minister is going to negotiate with Gazprom, Dorin Recean noted that the Russian concern has an obligation to supply natural gas to the border with Moldova, and our authorities expect that the company will fulfill them. He also explained that the introduction of a state of emergency in the energy sector means that there is a risk of interruption of electricity and other types of energy supplies. This will mean that we can limit energy exports and take other necessary measures to reduce the impact of interruption of electricity supplies from the MGRES. Moreover, according to him, in early January, the infrastructure of the east and southeast of Ukraine may suffer, as possible attacks from Russia are expected, and this may lead to technical crises, and the government must be ready to respond. When asked by journalists whether this situation is not the right moment for the reintegration of the country, the Prime Minister noted that reality should be discussed, not emotions, noting that the government only has a plan for the reintegration of the region's residents of Moldova.
